By mid-2022 Sprigg was grappling with astronomical disposable packaging costs so decided to use this as motivation to pursue a long-held ambition to introduce a pioneering reusable bowl scheme. They've always known that the biggest and worst impact on the planet was the amount of disposable packaging their business depends on.
Having two locations in Glasgow City Centre that serve approximately 2500 people per week, meant that Sprigg were estimating to use over 100,000 disposable bowls and lids for the year ahead (equating to 200,000 individual packaging items), so they decided to push ahead with the disposable bowl scheme. Portion control, cost of purchase and durability were key criteria in their hunt for reusable bowl stock. After researching several suppliers, Sprigg approached Ornamin and was delighted with the Ornamin bowls. So with an initial order of 1000 bowls and lids from Ornamin the reusable scheme was launched in January 2023. Since launching the scheme with customers Sprigg have achieved close to a 10% reuse rate and saved nearly 25,000 disposable items from landfill waste. Sprigg have now extended the scheme by introducing reuseable bowls to the catering operation side of the business and mostly recently by adding a new bowl size to the menu. This has been achieved with little to no marketing and they now have future plans to shout loud and proud about their unique bowl reuse scheme, with the goal of achieving a 25% reuse target across their customer base! The future is looking very bright and Ornamin are very proud to be part of this pioneering reusable scheme in the UK.
