Sustainability has an influence on the decisions that are made in the company - 100% recyclability, regionality, sensible products with multiple uses, no disposable items, and much more are principles that we work according to on a daily basis.

Rethinking your rubbish

ORNAMIN's product range and the development of new products are based on two main principles:

every product is recyclable and can be returned to the material cycle without significant downcycling
no disposable items are produced, only long-lasting products

In addition, plastic offers various advantages over many alternative materials such as glass or porcelain:

lightweight plastic products can be produced and shipped in an energy-saving manner
long shelf life of the items, due to break resistance

100% RECYCLABLE

Both internal production waste and returned products from our customers are recycled in-house at ORNAMIN and every product is given a second chance.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION

Saving energy to protect the environment plays a major role in the manufacture of an ORNAMIN product.

low processing temperatures (around 250 °C, compared to glass at around 800 °C)

use of natural machine waste heat to heat the buildings

CLIMATE-NEUTRAL COMPANY

Sustainable business practice

On 17 August 2022, ORNAMIN was officially certified as a climate-neutral company. The basis for this was the compensation of 969 tonnes of CO₂ from 2021. Thanks to numerous measures, CO₂ emissions were already reduced to 631 tonnes in 2022. These include switching to green gas and electricity, expanding our company-owned photovoltaic system, replacing old production machines with energy-efficient models, completely switching our lighting to long-lasting LEDs and the ongoing electrification of our vehicle fleet with hybrid and electric vehicles. The success is visible: in 2023, CO₂ emissions fell further to just 290 tonnes. Our certification has been extended until 31 December 2024 - and we're sticking to it! Further measures are already planned and will be implemented on an ongoing basis. To offset our CO₂ emissions, we invest in recognised climate protection projects that actively promote the UN sustainability goals of Agenda 2030. One of these projects supports sustainable energy supply in the Indian state of Uttaranchal through an environmentally friendly run-of-river power plant. ORNAMIN is also a proud member of the climate initiative ‘Together Climate Neutral 2030’ organised by the IHK Ostwestfalen zu Bielefeld, the IHK Lippe zu Detmold and Wirtschaft OWL. This initiative shows: The business community can and wants to set a good example when it comes to climate protection. Or, as our Managing Director Dr Holger von der Emde aptly puts it: ‘After the certificate is before the improved certificate. We are constantly working to become even more sustainable.’
