Melamin bezeichnet einen chemischen, pulverförmigen Rohstoff, aus dem Kunstharze hergestellt werden... more

Melamine is a chemical, powdery raw material from which synthetic resins are produced. From this synthetic resin, so-called moulding compounds are produced by adding various substances such as cellulose.

Under pressure and heat the finished, permanently hard melamine plastics, known to you as the tableware by ORNAMIN, are produced from these moulding compounds. The melamine plastics are dimensionally stable, surface-hard, break-proof and are used for the production of tableware and kitchen utensils due to these material properties.

May I put the melamine dishes in the oven for preheating?

As a general rule, ORNAMIN tableware made of melamine is not a cooking utensil but tableware and therefore not resistant to intense heat... more

As a general rule, ORNAMIN tableware made of melamine is not a cooking utensil but tableware and therefore not resistant to intense heat. Please avoid direct contact with a hot stove or open fire.

Melamine tableware has a lower heat capacity than glass and porcelain and thus keeps food warm for longer. Preheating of the plate is not necessary. The melamine MF152. 7 used by ORNAMIN consists mainly of renewable raw materials such as chlorine-free bleached cellulose. Excessive heating removes moisture from the material. This may result in discoloration or, in the worst case, damage to the dishes. ORNAMIN tableware made of melamine has a temperature resistance of -30°C to +70°C. Short term heating of the dishes to 100°C for approx. one minute is possible.

Why shouldn't I put a melamine plate in the microwave?

Due to various newspaper articles and television reports on the subject of kitchen utensils and tableware made of melamine... more

Due to various newspaper articles and television reports on the subject of kitchen utensils and tableware made of melamine in recent weeks and months, ORNAMIN would like to inform you that the use of the ORNAMIN tableware made of melamine poses no health risks unless it is used for cooking in microwave ovens and baking ovens or for frying (please also refer to the BfR statement): Release of melamine and formaldehyde from tableware and kitchen utensils Excerpt from statement No. 012/2011 of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment of 09. 03. 2011:

“Melamine resins are polymers and consist of the basic building blocks (monomers) melamine and formaldehyde. The materials are hard and break-resistant and are used for the production of tableware and kitchen utensils due to these material properties. Utensils made of melamine resin such as plates, cups, bowls or cutlery can release melamine and formaldehyde when exposed to high temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius. [...] According to the BfR, consumers should therefore refrain from using dishes and kitchen utensils made of melamine resin for frying and cooking or for heating food in the microwave. If the products are used at temperatures up to 70 °C, there are no health concerns. This applies, for example, to the filling of cups, bowls or plates with hot drinks and food.“
